Presents
The Ultimate Frontier”
Kailash Manasarovar Yatras (2008)

Come; experience the exhilarating sight of Lord Shiva’s abode on earth

Why?
Among the abodes of Sanatan Dharam’s Holy Trinity: Mahavishnu, Bramhaji and Lord Shiva, Kailash is the only place that can be physically visited in a human birth. Skanda Purana describes Mount Kailash (literally meaning ‘crystal’ in Sanskrit) as the centre of the universe and as the place where Lord Shiva is in a state of perpetual meditation along with his consort Mata Parvati. In Sanskrit it is called “Mt. Meru or Sumeru Parvat”, in Hindi “Holy Mt. Kailash”. For Tibetans it is “Kang Rinboche” meaning “The Precious Jewel of the Snow”.

As the center of the physical and metaphysical universe, Mt. Meru (Kailash) is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bonpos. For Hindus it is the abode of Shiva, for Jains the first thirthankara Rishabdev attained Nirvana at Mount Kailash, for Buddhists it is the abode of Samvara-a multi armed, wrathful deity worshipped in the chakrasamvara Tantric cycle of Tibetan Buddhism. And in the ancient Bon religion of Tibet, Kailash was the sacred nine storeys Swatika Mountain, upon which the Bonpo founder Shenrab alighted from heaven.

The word Mansarovar is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Manas' which means mind. Tradition has it that Lord Brahma created this lake from his mind. Parashuram's ashram too is said to be situated on a hill on the banks of the Mansarovar. A dip in this lake is bound to purify you fully from the sins of many births. Rakshas Taal the twin lake along with mansarovar is where Bhasmasur burnt himself.

Where?
Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are situated in Tibet, the ‘Roof of the World’. Tibet is very beautiful, has an average height of 4,000 m (13,120 ft) above sea level and home to many mountains over 8,000m (26,240ft). Tibet shares its borders with India, Nepal and Bhutan. Mount Kailash has an elevation of 21,778 feet (6638m) and Mansrovar at 14,950 feet. The holy parikrama (hora) around Mount Kailash is approx 53kms long. The Lake has a circumference of 88 km, depth of 90 m and occupies a total area of 320 km². You can go to Kailash Manasarovar from Kathmandu or Lhasa.

How?
Starting from Kathmandu the Kailash Manasarovar yatra can be completed either by landroute (16days) or by helicopter (12 days) or by chartered flight (8-10 days).

Who?
If you are a Shiva Bhakt, have a spirit of adventure, are willing to accept the uncertain and in good health this yatra is a must do. When?

To, Ms. Sujaya
Bangalore

Dear Madam,

Hari Om!

Many thanks for inquiring with us for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. As promised to you, I am sending across the details of the yatra which includes the day – to – day schedule, cost, cost includes / excludes, packing list, booking and cancellation policies, etc. Please find the documents enclosed herewith.

Our fixed dates of departure are on May 13th, Jun 10th, Jul 11th, Aug 10th and Sept 7th.

Please let me know which of these dates would be convenient to you. Please note that these departures would be possible only if there are at least 15 people in each group. Else, you will be accommodated in another group operated by our Nepali partner at Katmandu, in which case it will not be called an Atmadarshan group and there will not be any acharya from the mission.

Kindly go through the document carefully and please feel free to contact me for any further details or clarifications in this regard. Please let me know how many people are there from your side. You could also circulate this itinerary to your friends and relatives in Bangalore or anywhere else and find out if they too would join you. If you can form a group of 15, then we can organize an exclusive yatra only for your group at a date convenient to you. You need not abide by our fixed departure dates in that case.

Awaiting an early response from your end.

Thanks and Best regards,

Atmadarshan
