Cremation

Chapter :

Requirements

For Cremation

(1) Wooden seats 2
(2) Water jar 1
(3) Metal plate 1
(4) Metal glass 1
(5) Spoons 2
(6) Ghee 50 gms.
(7) Sesame seeds 10gms
(8) Darbhas
(9) A small electric coiled heater for sacrifice or Homa


For Shraddha

(1) Round cakes of cooked rice
(2) A morsel of cooked rice
(3) Cream – 10gms
(4) Collyrium
(5) Woolen thread – 30 c.m.
(6) Sandal-wood paste – 10gms.
(7) Incense
(8) White flowers
(9) Framed photograph of the departed.

Explanation

Wooden seats – or Mats of bamboos
Darbha – Sacred Grass, It is from the Cynosuroides family.
Dakshina – Sacrificial money/presents to be offered to a Brahmin.
Naivedya – Sacrificial food, oblation
Bhringaraja leaves – species of verbesina which has blue flowers.
Rice ball – Round cakes of cooked rice
(One big oblong of 3.5 c.m. dia & Three small of 2.5 c.m. dia)
Wearing – Woolen thread (30 cms)
Cream – Yellowish part of crud.

  2. it`s aways amazing to read about hindus and their cultures. they always have very deep meaning for every thing they do that makes them so mysterious...their cremate to offer the body as a sacrifice to the fire!!!
