1. Children of Arunachal Pradesh
During the recent stand-off with China on Arunachal Pradesh I asked myself a question. Sitting in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Amdavad, Patna what is it that we could do for the people of that state.
As I was contemplating possible answers received a letter the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas Arunachal Pradesh Trust, Dibrugarh, Assam. The letter titled ‘Sponsor-a-Child Scheme, your sponsored child’s information’ gave me the bio-data of Bengia Nimme a twelve year Arunachali girl whose annual education esamskriti had supported by making a contribution of Rs 8,000/. Bengia’s picture was attached. She is presently studying in class 5. The letter made me realize that each one of us can support the people of Arunachal Pradesh by sponsoring the education of one child.
I know of Vivekananda Kendra and their good work in Arunachal Pradesh. If you like to sponsor the education of an Arunachali child here is how you can do it.

2. Street children of Mumbai
SUPPORT (Society Undertaking Poor Peoples Onus for Rehabilitation) is a NGO registered as a Charitable Trust in Mumbai in 1985. It has been actively working with street children and homeless youth in the field of drug addiction since 1992.
The need for de-addiction from substance use by street children, the lack of appropriate services and significance of de-addiction for an eventual reduction in risk behavior related to crime on the streets and HIV / AIDS, underlined the urgent need for intervention. Many of the street children come from difficult background such as parental abuse, abject poverty at home, sexual abuse or lure of the big city.
SUPPORT’s mission is to encourage street children and homeless youth to give up their drug habit and reduce risk behavior through a process of detoxification, rehabilitation and mainstreaming.
SUPPORT offers residential facilities to the children and sends them to school or provides vocational training. It has over 100 boys and girls under its care in Mumbai.
