Temple has two front facing gopurams this and another. Some restoration work going on so we entered from other one.

Inner wall of I think Shiv temple. "Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy. If one calls the name Aiyarappa loudly from a particular spot in the temple, it echoes seven times. Circumbulating the temple prakaras is a usual tradition but this is prohibited in this temple." Aiyarappa means the Lord of Five Rivers.

Samundra Mathan or Churning of the Ocean is what you see at level one. S Manthan is also seen at the Bangkok Airport. Tiruvaiyaru is considered as holy as Kashi and bathing in river Cauvery is considered as holy as bathing in the Ganga.

Centre part stuccos of gopuram. "Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer Vastras. Devotees pray for wedding, child and education boons."

Rear side view of gopuram. "It is note worthy that devout Saivite Saint Appar – Tirunavukkarasar worshipped here and had the Mount Kailash darshan from here. He had his holy bath in the Manasa Sarovar at Kailash and returned from the Tiruvaiyaru tank. This Surya Pushkarini Theertha is all sacred. "

Close up of lower part of gopuram. Kirti Mukhas, to ward away evil spirits, is seen in the gopurams as in other temples.

Entrance to temple. The Thyagaraja Samadhi is close by, we have shown pictures in Thyagaraja Temple album.

Flagpost in temple. Taking pictures inside temple always a challenge. For comprehensive information on temple Click here

Wall of Goddess temple. "Mother Goddess in the temple is praised as Aram Valartha Nayaki in Tamil and Dhrma Samvardhini in Sanskrit meaning Mother who upholds Dharama."
