Editor – The Ganga is not like any other river whose course
can be changed or dams made over it, it is part of our spiritual heritage. This
might not be understood by people whose way of thinking and governance is based
on and influenced by the West.
There are other ways to generate power than by destroying the ecology of the Himalayas
(also known as temples of snow).
If all that is written above about the GVK group is true, they will incur the curse
of millions of Hindus and families of thousands who died.
The base camp to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers is Govindghat i.e. about one
hour’s drive before Badrinath. When I went in 1988, there was one Gurudwara
where devotees spent the night. During 2001 visit found lots of hotels and a huge
car park for devotees. It resembled a picnic spot. The situation in 2013 is surely
    worse!
More than anything else I blame the Consumerism and Comfort that has gripped most
of us. A Yatra means that we have to make lots of effort and undergo pain to reach
our destination, come closer to God. However, today we want to do it in comfort
with scant respect for the environment.
    Respect Nature!
