National Tribal Dance Festival

The third edition of the National Tribal Dance Festival was held at Raipur on the occasion of the Chhattisgarh’s foundation day. Earlier, it was held in 2019 and 2021, the break being due to Covid. The festival was held at Raipur’s Science College from November 1 to 3, 2022 and is organised by the Chhattisgarh Department of Tourism and Culture

The festival featured artists from across the globe including India. About 1,500 dancers travelled from 28 states, 7 union territories, and 9 other countries, including Egypt, Russia, New Zealand, Mozambique, and Serbia.

The deeper purpose behind this festival is to respect and honor the tribal people and their cultures. Not to forget showcasing their dance and music. It is an attempt to preserve tribal culture, of India and the world, in this day and age. The state government realises the importance of preserving tribal culture, hence has taken a number of initiatives.

CM Baghel added that, “The incorrect kind of development has turned into a menace to nature.” Additionally, it has endangered tribal peoples' rights regarding their "Jal, Jungle, Zameen" (water, forest, and land).

In a subtle way, the festival promotes unity amongst tribal groups worldwide. Here are some festival pictures.
